Export data from an AI moderated study

If you want to share data from your study outside Dscout, you have several options to export it. You can export study responses, customize crosstab analysis, and more.

To export data from an AI moderated study:

1

Navigate to the Responses tab of your study.

2

Click the Export study data button in the top-right corner. The export modal is displayed.

3

Choose what you want to export. For more information, see the sections below.

4

Click Download selected. A progress modal is displayed.

5

When prompted, click Download in the progress modal to complete your export.

Refer to the sections below for what's available on each tab of the export modal.

Basic

From the Basic tab, you can download full participant responses (.csv), session recordings (.mp4), and more. Make your selections and click Download selected, then click Download in the progress modal when prompted.

Here's a breakdown of each option:

Option
Description

Entry data (.csv)

Download a spreadsheet that includes:

  • Participant information.

  • Study questions and responses.

  • Screener questions and responses (if auto-recruiting).

  • The number of clicks and time on Task questions (if applicable).

  • AI themes (if generated prior to export).

Note: Participant emails are only included for studies in which you invited your own participants. They aren't included for participants recruited from Dscout's panels.

AI summaries (.csv)

Download a spreadsheet of your Talk out loud and Task questions along with their AI-generated summaries.

Clicks (.csv)

Download a spreadsheet of all click data captured on Task questions, including elements clicked and navigation between URLs and Figma frames.

Note: Clicks apply only to studies with Task questions, and click data is captured only when your study requires the Chrome extension. For more information, see Manage participant experience in an AI moderated study.

Entry notes (.csv)

Download a spreadsheet of all researcher-entered notes on participant entries.

Chart data (.zip)

Download a .zip containing every chart from your study as .png images.

These are the charts you see when viewing responses by question. For example, multiple choice and scale questions.

Full session recordings (.zip)

Download a .zip file containing .mp4 videos of each participant's entire session recording.

Transcripts (.zip)

Download a .zip file containing .csv files of each participant's session transcript. Questions are divided into rows for easy identification.

Study stimuli (.zip)

Download a .zip file containing all stimuli you added to questions when building the study.

This export does not include any data from participant responses. It only includes the stimuli you added to questions when designing your study.

On the Print/PDF tab, you can customize a PDF version of your data. Choose how you want your PDF formatted and click Download selected, then click Download in the progress modal when prompted.

Here's a breakdown of each option:

Option
Description

Layout

Determines how many responses appear on a given page of your exported PDF. By default, PDFs include one response per page.

Sorting

Determines the order responses are sorted in your PDF:

  • Participants (alphabetical by participant first name).

  • Newest to oldest.

  • Oldest to newest.

Included data

Determines which data from each response is included in your exported PDF. Select from the following options:

  • Participant name and profile picture.

  • Entry responses.

  • Researcher notes and highlights.

  • Extended participant demographics.

Crosstab

Crosstab analysis is useful when you want to understand the relationship between two factors in your study—for example, how many participants of a certain age gave a particular answer. On the Crosstab tab, make your selections and click Download selected to export your crosstab as a .csv file, then click Download in the progress modal when prompted.

Here's a breakdown of each option:

Option
Description

Answers

Displays every possible answer to your study questions.

Tags

Displays all researcher-created tags in your study.

Note: Tags are counted once per participant—if you tag two questions from the same participant with the same tag, that participant is still only counted once.

Participants

Displays each study participant's name.

Group

Displays each researcher-created participant group, counting the participants in each as it relates to your other selection(s).

Days

Displays the days of the week, counting the participants who completed their response on each day.

Times

Displays each hour of the day, counting the participants who completed their response within each hour.

Age

Displays ages 13 and up, counting the participants who fall into each group.

Gender

Displays the following options, counting the number of participants who fall into each group as it relates to your other selection(s):

  • Prefer not to say.

  • Prefer to self-identify.

  • Non-binary.

  • Man.

Tags

On the Tags tab, you can download your data structured around the tags you've applied throughout your study responses—count data for each tag, the tagged responses themselves, and more. Make a selection and click Download selected, then click Download in the progress modal when prompted.

Here's a breakdown of each option:

Option

Past exports

On the Past exports tab, you can view a history of previous exports completed in your study. This is useful if you want to quickly re-download a file or see what data your collaborators have exported. To download a past export, click the download icon beside it in the list.

Note: Past exports are only kept for two weeks after their original export date. After that, you'll need to configure the export again using the settings described above.
