Question types in AI moderated studies
AI moderated studies gather in-depth insights on concepts, prototypes, and more through open-ended conversation and hands-on tasks. Sessions are continuously recorded, and you can combine question types to collect exactly the information you need.
Talk out loud
Allow participants to provide a verbal answer that will be transcribed as part of their recorded response.
Two settings are unique to AI moderated studies:
Read verbatim: When on, the AI moderator asks your prompt exactly as written. When off, it may rephrase the prompt naturally while staying on topic.
Follow-up questions: Have the AI moderator ask follow-ups in response to the participant's answer.
Task (up to 5 per study)
Ask participants to complete a specific task on a live website or within a prototype.
This question type works similarly to how it does in other study types, but only the following settings are available in AI moderated studies:
Self-reported completion: Presents the participant with a
Yes/Noquestion asking whether they were able to complete the provided task.Privacy blur: Blurs the participant’s screen during the task. This protects participants’ personally identifiable information (PII) during studies. For more information, see Privacy blur.
Follow-up questions: Have the AI moderator ask follow-up questions in response to the participant's answer. For more information, see Add questions to an AI moderated study.
Provide participants with a question/prompt and a list of options to choose from.
Scale
Have participants rate how they feel about a statement on a predefined scale. You can customize the Start value and End value with your own labels.
Question limits
AI moderated studies support:
A maximum of 5 Task questions.
Up to 30 questions total (excluding Multiple choice and Scale questions).
