In-context examples help teams to build consensus and make informed decisions. Use the public share links feature to easily share media from your dscout project with your stakeholders, whether or not they have a dscout account. 

Anyone who has the public share link will be able to see the media you’ve shared -- no dscout login required. 

Creating a public share link in Recruit

Users who have a member role or higher can create public share links for media in dscout projects by using the “Share” button.

  1. Click into an individual application.
  2. Above the piece of media you’d like to share, find the “Share” button

To create a new link, click “Share” on the desired media to open the link settings modal, then click “Generate public share link.” 

Once the public share link is generated, you’ll see a few additional options:

  • Add a title to your link, to give viewers more context for what they’re seeing
  • Require an access code to view the link page, for additional security
  • Set an expiration date for your link (default expiration is one year) 

Customize your link settings, then click “Save.” The “Share” button for that piece of media will change to “Sharing” to reflect that your link is active. 

All that’s left is to send the link -- and access code, if required -- to your desired audience. Here’s an example of what they’ll see when they visit the public share link page:

Keep in mind: Anyone who has the public share link can view this media and can share the link with others. You are responsible for ensuring you only provide access to authorized individuals.

Editing/deleting a public share link

To edit or delete an existing public share link, click the “Shared” button on the desired media to open the link settings modal. 

You can edit the title, access code requirements, or expiration date for your public share link in the settings modal. Click “Save” to apply any edits. The link URL won’t change, so no need to re-send to viewers -- just make sure that you pass along any new/updated access codes.  

To delete your public share link, click “Delete public share link,” then click “Save.” Anyone who attempts to visit the deleted link will see a message that the shared content is no longer available. 

Managing public share links for a project

To help you keep track of all the public share links in your project, we’ve created a link manager at the project level. Users who have a member role or higher can access the link manager using the “Project Link Manager” button on the project page. 

The link manager shows the link title, type, number of views, and expiration date for each public share link in your project. Click the “Edit Link” button to edit or delete an individual link. 

Note: The project link manager shows up to 120 public share links. If you create more than 120 links in a given project, simply delete any links that are no longer in use to show the most relevant links in the manager.

Sharing media to Slack

Sharing media to Slack requires the dscout account owner or an account manager to authorize a Slack workspace on the “Integrations” tab of the Account Management page. Learn more about the Slack integration for dscout. 

If your dscout account has the Slack integration enabled, you can use public share links to send dscout media directly to public channels in your Slack workspace. 

To do so, first generate a public share link for the piece of media you want to share, then click the “Share it on Slack” option in the link settings modal. Select a Slack channel and write an optional note. Click “Share to Slack” to post the media (accessed via public share link) to your desired channel.
