Comments let you leave feedback directly on a screener or study. You can attach comments to specific questions, mention your collaborators directly, and mark comments as requiring a resolution before the study can be launched.
You can access a screener or study’s comments by clicking the Comments (speech bubble) icon at the top of the builder:
If a specific question has comments, you’ll see a yellow icon with the number of comments on the question itself. Click this icon to view the question’s comments:
Add a comment
When leaving comments, you can leave them on the study generally or attach them to specific questions. You can also tag collaborators to ensure they see your notes. Tagged collaborators receive an email notification letting them know you mentioned them.
To add a comment to a screener or study:
-
Click the Comments (speech bubble) icon at the top of the builder. All unresolved comments are displayed.
Note: In diary studies, click Comments (no icon) at the top of the builder. - Click + New comment at the bottom of the comments sidebar. A text box is displayed.
- Type your comment in the text box.
-
(Optional) Select Must be resolved to launch if your comment requires action before the screener or study may be launched.
Note: If the screener or study has already been launched, this setting will be disabled.
- (Optional) Type @ followed by a collaborator’s name to mention them in the comment.
- Click Comment.
Now, your comment is added to the study. If you selected Must be resolved to launch, the screener or study cannot be launched until the comment is resolved. (For more information, see Resolve a comment.) If you mentioned a collaborator, they’ll receive an email notification letting them know.
To add a comment to a specific question, hover over the question and click the Comments (speech bubble) icon:
Resolve a comment
Once a comment has been addressed, you can resolve it. Some questions may be marked as Must be resolved to launch. Those questions must be marked as “resolved” directly in the builder before the screener or study can be launched.
To resolve a comment:
- Locate the comment in your screener or study.
-
Click the checkmark icon in the top right corner of the comment.
Note: Only the original comment in a thread contains this checkmark icon. If you don’t see it, make sure you’re looking at the top comment, not a reply. In diary studies, you'll see the word Resolve instead of an icon.
Now, the comment is marked as resolved. You can view any previously resolved comments by applying the Resolved filter in the comments sidebar. For more information, see Filter comments.
Reply to a comment
If you’ve been mentioned in a comment (or feel like chiming in anyway!), you can reply to start a thread.
Note: Notifications are only sent if you mention a collaborator directly using @ followed by the collaborator’s name. They will not receive a notification for replies to their comments alone.
To reply to a comment:
- Locate the comment you want to reply to.
- Click Reply. A text box is displayed.
- Type your response.
- (Optional) Type @ followed by a collaborator’s name to mention them in the comment.
- Click Done.
Now, your reply is posted. Anyone you mentioned will receive an email notification. You can edit or delete your replies on unresolved comments, too. For more information, see Edit a comment or Delete a comment.
Filter comments
When viewing comments, you may wish to filter them to find those relevant to you. Comments have the following filter options:
- Unresolved: Displays only comments that have not been resolved. This filter is applied by default.
- Mentions: Displays only comments that you have been mentioned in.
- Must be resolved: Displays only comments that require attention prior to launching the screener or study.
- Resolved: Displays only comments that have already been resolved.
Comment filters can be accessed by clicking the drop-down at the top of the comments sidebar:
Edit a comment
If you want to modify a comment you’ve already left on a screener or study, you can do so. You can edit the comment itself, add collaborator mentions, and change whether a comment must be resolved or not prior to launch.
Note: Resolved comments cannot be edited. Additionally, you can only edit comments you’ve left, not comments left by your collaborators.
To edit a comment:
- Locate the comment in your screener or study.
- Click the three-dot icon in the top right corner of the comment.
- Click Edit. A text box is displayed.
- Make the required edits.
- Click Done.
Now, the edits to your comment are saved. Any new collaborators you’ve mentioned will receive an email notification.
Delete a comment
If a comment is no longer needed, you can delete it.
Note: Resolved comments cannot be deleted, nor can comments with replies. Additionally, you can only delete comments you’ve left, not comments left by your collaborators.
To delete a comment:
- Locate the comment in your screener or study.
- Click the three-dot icon in the top right corner of the comment.
- Click Delete.
Now, your comment is deleted.
