# Invite participants to an interview study
You can add participants to an interview study before and after it's launched (as long as it's still open!). When adding participants, you can do so from a Dscout screener, from a previous Dscout study, or manually using participant names and email addresses. If your organization uses Private Panels, you can also invite your panelists to join a Dscout interview study.

**Note:** This article shows how to invite participants from within your study. You can also add participants to your study directly within a screener. Invites work a little differently for draft and launched studies. Select the status of your study below for proper guidance:

**To add participants to a drafted interview study:**

Navigate to the **Setup** tab of your study Then, select **Participants**.

Under **Invite participants**, click **Add participants**. An invite modal is displayed.

Select from the following options, depending on how you've recruited your participants:
* **From project screener:** You've used a standalone Dscout screener in this same project to find participants, and now you're ready to add them to this study.
* **From previous study:** You've found participants in another Dscout study in this same project you now want to invite to this study.
* **Manual:** You have names and email addresses for participants you've found outside of Dscout.

Select or enter the participants you want to invite, following the guidance for your recruitment source:
**(From project screener)** Select a screener. Then, select an application rating. All participants with that assigned rating will be invited when this process is complete.
**(From previous study)** Select a study. Then, select which participants to invite from the drop-down (all participants, only participants who were previously paid, or only participants who submitted an entry).
**(Manual)** Enter your participants' details in the text box in the format `First name, Last name, Email address`. Or, upload a CSV file with your participants' details in three columns labeled `first name`, `last name`, and `email`.

Click **Select participants**.

Now, your selected participants are listed on your study's **Participants** page. When you launch your study, all participants listed here will automatically be invited.

**Note:** You can update your study's invite message up until you launch. Once your study is launched, you'll be able to edit the message with each new group of participants you add.

If you want to add more participants, repeat the steps above. Or, if you change your mind and want to remove a participant from your list, click the **X** beside the participant to remove them from your study.

**To add participants to a launched interview study:**

Confirm or edit the invite message. Then, click **Send invites**.

**Note:** If you're conducting your study in another language, remember to enter your invite message in the language you want to use with participants. Dscout does not automatically translate invite messages for interview studies.

Invitations to take part in your study are sent to your selected participants immediately. If you want to add more participants from other screeners or studies, repeat the steps above for each.

## Add from Private Panels
If you manage your own Dscout Private Panels, you can add participants to an interview study from within those panels.

**Note:** Before you can add participants from Private Panels, you must first create a study within Private Panels to link to your interview study and add your panelists there. Then, you can proceed with the steps below to invite those panelists to your interview study.

**To add participants from Private Panels:**

In your Private Panels study, select the participants you want to invite to your interview study.

Select **Invite to Dscout** from the **Bulk actions** drop-down. The invite to Dscout study modal is displayed, including a list of all launched Dscout studies you have access to.

Select your interview study from the drop-down list.

Click **Continue**. The mass email modal is displayed.

Customize the email invitation you want to send to your selected panelists.

Click **Save and continue**. A confirmation modal is displayed.

Click **Send to \[number of participants]**. A second confirmation modal is displayed.

Click **OK** to confirm.

Now, email invitations are sent to your selected panelists. When they click the link included in the email, they’ll be taken to the landing page for your study where they can accept and schedule a time slot.
## Edit invite message
For drafted studies, you can edit the invite message at any time on the **Participants** page:
You can format your text in the following ways:
* `*bold*` = **bold**
* `_italic_` = *italic*
* `` = [https://examplelink.com](https://examplelink.com/)
* `[Sample link](https://examplelink.com)` = [Sample link](https://examplelink.com/)
Click the invite message to edit it. Then, click **Done** to save it. This message is sent to participants added to your study prior to launch.
For launched studies, you'll customize the invite message during the invite process. For more information, see [**Launched studies**](#launched-study) in the section above.
