# Export data from an interview study

If you want to view or share sessions or data outside of Dscout, you can export it from your interview study. You can export full sessions individually or in bulk, and you can also export transcripts, notes, and session clips.

**You can quickly export full session recordings, session clips, or session screenshares from the Sessions tab of your study using the Export icons for each:**

## Export a session recording

If you want to view or share a session recording outside of Dscout, you can export it. When exporting a session, you can choose whether you want to download the full session (including the participant’s camera and any screenshares from the session), only the participant’s camera, or only the screenshares from the session.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note:** Session recordings are exported via .mp4 files. File size will vary depending on the session’s length.
{% endhint %}

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Click **Export data** above the session transcript. An export modal is displayed.

![](/files/f46e3d9d0d86a2b3a5cda10299b2b500b004eab7)
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
On the **Recordings** tab, select from the following options:

<div align="left"><img src="/files/964eef14865973003c3db7cbca99cbbf0c494a21" alt="" width="563"></div>

* **Full session:** Download both the participant’s camera recording and any session screenshares in a single video.
* **Scout camera:** Download only the participant’s camera recording.
* **Screenshare X:** Download only the selected session screenshare.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note:** A single session may have multiple screenshares. For help identifying the right screenshare, use the timeline in the recording view. For more information, see the table under Navigate session recordings.
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Click **Download selected**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**(Full session and Screenshare only)** In the modal, confirm the export configuration is what you want to download. If it isn’t, click **Configure** in the top right corner to adjust the export further.

<div align="left"><img src="/files/449d3f3bb1bbbd09bfea96e573201271b8a5b821" alt="" width="563"></div>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**(Full session and Screenshare only)** Adjust screenshare and camera placement. Once you’ve made your selections, click **Generate** to download.

<div align="left"><img src="/files/c1f007ec94c83f1b13d1ef54ff3c326df5fcc62b" alt="" width="563"></div>
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

Now, your export is generated. In some cases, your download will begin immediately, and you’ll find it where your computer stores downloads. But depending on session length, this may take a while. You’ll receive an email once your file is ready to download. Click the link in that email to complete your download.

## Export session transcript and notes

In addition to downloading session recordings, you can also download session transcripts and notes. This is helpful if you want to share session details outside of Dscout.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note:** Transcripts and notes are exported via .csv files. File size will vary depending on the session’s length.
{% endhint %}

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Click **Export data** above the session transcript. An export modal is displayed.

![](/files/f46e3d9d0d86a2b3a5cda10299b2b500b004eab7)
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
On the **Other** tab, select from the following options:

<div align="left"><img src="/files/ac0d44a839424a7397bc819e46a44550e3c17fb7" alt="" width="563"></div>

* **Transcript:** Download the entire Dscout-generated transcript of the session in a .csv file with timestamps and speaker details spanning the entire session.
* **Notes:** Download only the manual annotations that were added to the session. The resulting .csv file includes note text, note creators, and more.

{% hint style="success" %}
**Tip:** Click **Generate** beside either option to download the most up-to-date version, including any edits made since the previous export. If this is the first time either file has been exported, you’ll need to click **Generate** first.
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Click **Download selected**. A success banner appears once your export is generated.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Click **Download** in the banner when prompted.

{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

Now, the selected file is downloaded to your computer. You’ll find it where your computer stores downloads.

## Export sessions in bulk

If you want to share many sessions from your study at once, you can export them in bulk. When performing a bulk export, you can export any combination of the following:

* **Participant videos:** Participant camera recordings from each interview session.
* **Screenshares:** Portions of each interview session in which a screen was shared.
* **Clips:** Portions of each interview session that have been saved as clips by you or another researcher.
* **Participant pictures:** The profile photos of each participant in your study.\
  \
  **Note:** In many cases, participants you’ve invited outside of our Dscout Scout Panel won’t have pictures to export.
* **Transcripts:** The full transcript of each session in your study.
* **AI summaries:** AI summaries/notable moments generated for every session in your study.

**To export sessions in bulk:**

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Navigate to the **Sessions** tab of your study.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Click the **Bulk export** icon in the top right corner of the page.

{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

Now, the selected files are downloaded to your computer. You’ll find them where your computer stores browser downloads.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.dscout.com/interview-studies/view-interview-session-recordings/export-data-from-an-interview-study.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
