# Configure data synchronization in the Salesforce integration

Once you've set up the Salesforce integration, you can configure exactly what data you want synced between the two platforms. You'll select a Private Panels **panel** and a Salesforce **contact list** to link. Then, you'll define which properties or attributes from each you want to sync.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note:** Data sync can only be configured between **one panel and one contact list** at a time, and the configuration applies to your organization's entire Private Panels account.
{% endhint %}

### **Property mapping options**

When selecting data to sync between Private Panels and Salesforce, the data must be compatible in both platforms. For example, a text field in Salesforce cannot be synced with a boolean property in Private Panels. Nor can a date field be synced with a text string property.

<figure><img src="/files/lRFcxeAYu1S3XcujQ7Nh" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Here's a breakdown of what Salesforce field types can be mapped to each Private Panels property type:

| Private Panels property type | Compatible Salesforce field types |
| ---------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Text                         | <ul><li>String</li><li>Double</li><li>ID</li><li>Address</li><li>Phone</li><li>Email</li><li>URL</li></ul> |
| Long text                    | Textarea                                                                                                   |
| Date                         | <ul><li>Datetime</li><li>Date</li></ul>                                                                    |
| True/False                   | Boolean                                                                                                    |
| Number                       | Int                                                                                                        |
| Single-select (dropdown)     | <ul><li>Picklist</li><li>Reference</li></ul>                                                               |
| Multi-select (checkbox)      | Multi-picklist                                                                                             |

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note:** When syncing Single-select and Multi-select properties with Salesforce, the options available for the synced field in Salesforce are automatically saved within Private Panels. You will not be able to edit the Single-select or Multi-select options manually in Private Panels.
{% endhint %}

### **Sync directions**

Data can be synced in either direction using this integration, meaning you can indicate whether changes in Salesforce should trigger updates in Private Panels or vice versa.

<figure><img src="/files/oNN8SKGeiCkEBpweQWp6" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You have the following sync options:

* **Salesforce → Private Panels:** Changes to the selected property in Salesforce trigger updates in Private Panels. Best for data that is managed in Salesforce but used for reference or filtering in Private Panels.
* **Private Panels → Salesforce:** Changes to the selected property in Private Panels trigger updates in Salesforce. Best for data that is managed in Private Panels but used for reference or filtering in Salesforce.
* **Two-way:** Changes to the selected property in either Salesforce or Private Panels trigger updates in the opposite platform. Best for data that could be managed in either Private Panels or Salesforce, with no platform serving as the source of truth over the other.

### Configure data sync

When you know what data you want to sync, you'll configure your selections on the Integrations page in your Private Panels account.

**To configure property mapping in the Salesforce integration:**

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Navigate to the **Settings** tab in Private Panels. Then, select **Integrations**.

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/nF7DIAo8z2EW0d2MsroY" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Under **Salesforce**, click **Configure sync**. The data sync modal is displayed.

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/NN5kTMfEkxmrSVTy1LrJ" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Select a **Target panel** from the drop-down. This is the Private Panels panel you want tied to Salesforce.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Select a **Salesforce list** from the drop-down. This is the Salesforce contact list you want tied to Private Panels.

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/1DLfK1YaLBjoWS2q6U7T" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Click **+ Add property mapping** to add a new data point to sync.

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/6NG723ONoT8st3TQdhox" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note:** Private Panels automatically adds mapping for `First name`, `Last name`, and `Email` fields if detected in your Salesforce account. However, these are not synced until you choose a **Target panel** and **Salesforce list**.
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Select the **Salesforce field** and the **Private Panels property** you want synced. Your selection in one drop-down will affect the available options in the other. For more information, see [Property mapping options](#property-mapping-options).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Select a **Direction** for the sync. For more information, see [Sync directions](#sync-directions).

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/sa8FY4DvPKQiR369RRw3" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Repeat steps 4–6 for each data point you want to sync.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Click **Save configuration**.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

Now, your sync configuration is saved. You'll see your synced Private Panels panel and Salesforce contact list on the **Integrations** page:

<figure><img src="/files/UTyg3059sqAaMx5mJ8sQ" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Here, you can click the **Settings (gear)** icon to adjust your configuration or the **Sync** button to manually trigger a sync:

<figure><img src="/files/wvgTq5z9DHSHc3fd4JJL" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

When your first sync runs, any records that exist in one platform but not the other are automatically created where they did not exist before. For example, if my Salesforce contact list has 10 records but my synced Private Panels panel is empty, 10 new panelists will be created in my panel upon the first sync.

### View sync status

Once data sync is configured, the integration runs automatically once a day at **6 am UTC/11 pm PST** (though you can always trigger a manual sync as shown in the screenshot above). You can view the status of the latest sync on the Private Panels Integrations page:

<figure><img src="/files/sTlNQPcQ3DhniWYIMpL1" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Here, there are three possible statuses:

* **Sync finished:** The latest sync completed with no issues.
* **Sync running:** A sync is in progress.
* **Sync error:** A sync began but could not be completed. Hover over this status for more information. For help resolving the issue, see [Troubleshoot the Salesforce integration](/private-panels/integrations/salesforce-integration/troubleshoot-the-salesforce-integration.md).

### View synced properties

In Private Panels, properties synced with Salesforce are indicated with a Salesforce icon that includes the associated Salesforce field label. You'll see this if you navigate to the **Panel properties** tab for your panel.

For example, First Name, Last Name, and Email in this panel are all synced with Salesforce:

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.dscout.com/private-panels/integrations/salesforce-integration/configure-data-synchronization-in-the-salesforce-integration.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
