# User management and permissions

Private Panels access is managed at the organization level, meaning a user can be part of many organizations. However, each user gets one role per organization, which determines what they can see and do within it.

### User roles

There are three roles a user can have in a Private Panels organization:

* **Admin:** Unrestricted access to the organization, its data, and its settings. Can add, modify, and delete panelists, panel properties, and panels, and can manage other users' roles. (An organization can have more than one Admin.)
* **User:** Can add, modify, and delete studies, and can add or modify panelists. Can't bulk-edit or bulk-delete panelists, export the panel, or add/modify/delete panel properties (like Date of birth or Zip code). Can invite new Users and Viewers to the organization.
* **Viewer:** View-only access to Private Panels. Can't make any changes besides updating their own profile.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note:** Private Panels previously offered a **Limited** role, which has been deprecated. Existing users with this role may exist and have access similar to a Viewer. However, new Limited roles cannot be assigned.
{% endhint %}

### Add new users

Private Panels Admins and Users can add new users to your organization’s account.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note:** Users can only add other Users. Admins must add additional Admins to your account.
{% endhint %}

**To add new users in Private Panels:**

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Navigate to the **Settings** tab in Private Panels. Then, select **Users**.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Under **User invites**, enter the new user's email address.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Select a role for the new user from the drop-down.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Click **Send user invite**.

{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

Now, an invite is sent to the email address you entered. The invited user will need to follow a link in the email to verify their account. If you need to resend an invitation, click **Resend invitation** beside the user's name:

Once the new user has accepted the invitation, you can change or delete their role in your organization using the **Role** drop-down and **Delete (trash)** buttons in the **Current users** table:

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.dscout.com/private-panels/organization-settings/user-management-and-permissions.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
