# Exclude responses from a usability test

If you notice a participant’s response isn’t particularly helpful, you may want to hide it from the rest of your data. This can keep you organized during analysis and ensure the data you share with your stakeholders is accurate and useful.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note:** Exclude responses at your own discretion. But if you suspect a participant intentionally provided an unhelpful response (if you believe they used AI when not prompted to, for example), you can report an issue with that response, too. For more information, see the **Report an issue with a response** section at the end of this article.
{% endhint %}

## Exclude a response from a study

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Navigate to the **Responses** tab of your study.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Click the **Participants** icon in the left sidebar.

![](/files/770c1a8ac56d5643e71067f6edd9c2ba5fa7827b)
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Select the participant whose response you want to exclude. The participant’s details are displayed in the right sidebar.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Click the three-dot icon in the right sidebar.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Select **Exclude entry from data set**. A confirmation modal is displayed.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Click **Exclude entry** to confirm.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

Now, the selected response is hidden. Hidden responses are not visible alongside the other responses in your study, either in the Questions view or the Participants view. Hidden responses are also excluded from any data you may export from Dscout.

When your study has hidden responses, you’ll see the **View hidden entries** icon at the top of your list of participants:

## Re-include a response

If you no longer wish for a response to be hidden from your study, you can re-include it (or unhide it).

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note:** If you have requested a refund for a response in your study, you will not be able to re-include it in your data set. For more information, see the **Report an issue with a response** section at the end of this article.
{% endhint %}

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Navigate to the **Responses** tab of your study.

![](/files/f20f0397a56dd4b3e347e017aca6c8ffc63516f0)
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Click the **Participants** icon in the left sidebar.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Click the **View hidden entries** icon at the top of your list of participants. Your study’s hidden entries are displayed.

![](/files/5283372a7a7b597df0572bdc24a5e5b0df511331)
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Select the participant whose response you want to re-include. The participant’s details are displayed in the right sidebar.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Click the three-dot icon in the right sidebar.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Select **Reinclude in my data set**. A confirmation modal is displayed.

![](/files/db02107e17e6413d78694681986b3d831ead7ec6)
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Click **Re-include** entry to confirm.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

Now, the selected response is once again included in your study. You’ll see it alongside the other responses, both in the Questions view and the Participants view. The response will also be included in any data you export from your study going forward.

## Report an issue with a response

Dscout takes pride in the quality of our Scout Panel and our Partner Panels. So, we want to hear from you if you have concerns about the quality, honesty, or integrity of a participant’s response. You can report any concerns directly from your study.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note:** You can’t report responses to studies where you invited your own participants. It’s expected that you only recruit participants whose opinion you value and trust. If you have any questions, contact [Dscout Support](mailto:support@dscout.com).
{% endhint %}

When reporting an issue, you can:

* Request a refund on the participant’s payment (within seven days of receiving their response).
* Exclude the participant’s response from your dataset.
* Backfill the participant’s response by recruiting a new participant (within seven days of receiving the initial response).

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Navigate to the **Responses** tab of your study.

![](/files/f20f0397a56dd4b3e347e017aca6c8ffc63516f0)
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

{% step %}
Click **Submit**.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

Now, your report is sent to Dscout Support who will review the participant’s response and your requested action. Refunds are typically issued within seven business days. When backfilling a response, Dscout will automatically reopen your study or increase your participant limit as needed.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.dscout.com/usability-tests/analyze-a-usability-test/exclude-responses-from-a-usability-test.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
