Export usability test data

If you want to share data from your study outside of Dscout, you have several options to export it. You can export study responses, customize crosstab analysis, and more.

To export data from a usability test:

1

Navigate to the Responses tab of your study.

2

Click the Export mission data button in the top right corner. The export modal is displayed.

3

Choose what you want to export. For more information, see the sections below.

4

Click Download selected. A progress modal is displayed.

5

When prompted, click Download in the progress modal to complete your export.

Refer to the sections below for information on what options are available on each tab of the export modal.

Basic

From the Basic tab of the export modal, you can download full participant responses (.csv files), session recordings (.mp4 files), and more. Here, make a selection and click Download selected to complete your export. When prompted, click Download in the progress modal.

Here’s a breakdown of each option:

Option
Description

Entry data (.csv)

Download a spreadsheet that includes:

  • Participant information.

  • Study questions and responses.

  • Screener questions and responses (if applicable).

  • Number of clicks on task questions (if applicable).

  • Time on task questions (if applicable).

  • AI themes (if generated prior to export).

Note: Participant emails are only included for studies in which you invited your own participants. They are not included for participants recruited from Dscout's available panels.

AI summaries (.csv)

Download a spreadsheet that includes your study’s open-ended, talk out loud, and task questions as well as their AI summaries.

Note: AI summaries must be generated for your study before you can export them. For more information, see AI summaries.

Clicks (.csv)

Download a spreadsheet that includes all click data collected as part of your study, including elements clicked, navigation between URLs and Figma frames, and more.

Entry notes (.csv)

Download a spreadsheet that includes all researcher-entered notes on participant entries.

Task data (.csv)

Download a spreadsheet that includes metrics collected as part of task questions in your study, including time on task, number of clicks, and more. For more information, see Task questions.

Chart data (.zip)

Download a .zip file containing every chart from your study in .png format. These are the charts you see when viewing responses by question in your study. For example, multiple choice questions and their associated bar charts.

Full session recordings (.zip)

Download a .zip file containing .mp4 videos of each participant’s entire session recording.

Transcripts (.zip)

Download a .zip file containing .csv files of each participant’s session transcript. Questions are divided into rows for easy identification.

Mission stimuli (.zip)

Download a .zip file containing all stimuli provided to participants throughout the study. This export does not include any data from participant responses. It only includes the stimuli you added to questions when designing your study.

On the Print/PDF tab of the export modal, you can customize a PDF version of your data to export. Here, select how you want your PDF to be formatted and click Download select to export your PDF. When prompted, click Download in the progress modal.

Here’s a breakdown of each option:

  • Participant name and profile picture.

  • Entry responses.

  • Researcher notes and highlights.

  • Extended participant demographics.

  • Tags.

Crosstab

Cross tab analysis can be useful if you want to understand the relationship between two factors in your study. For example, maybe you want to see how many people of a certain age gave a particular answer to a question. Or maybe you want to see how many people in a certain state responded a certain way. You can do that with a crosstab export.

On the Crosstab tab of the export modal, make your selections and click Download selected to export your crosstab as a .csv file. When prompted, click Download in the progress modal.

Here’s a breakdown of each option:

Option
Description

Answers

Displays every possible answer to your study questions.

Tags

Displays all researcher-created tags in your study. This option also includes AI notable moments (usability tests only) and AI themes if generated for your study.

Note: Tags are counted once per participant. For example, if you tag two questions from the same participant with Tag A, that participant will still only be counted once when generating your crosstab.

Participants

Displays each study participant’s name.

Group

Displays each researcher-created participant group, counting the number of participants who are part of each group as it relates to your other selection(s).
